Whitehorse, YT

Aug 17-19: The time has come to say goodbye to Alaska! We are sad, but also so grateful for the opportunity and the memories. It's now time to start making our way slowly back home. It was a very wet and rainy start to the day.

Oceanside RV Park was a little busy, so we decided to pull in to the Marina parking lot to hook the truck up.

When stopping at the Canadian Border checkpoint, they were interested in searching only the truck this time around. The picture above shows the agents opening and looking through the truck. I'm sure they were extremely disappointed that they didn't find anything incriminating, lol!

Starting to see fall colors!

Sean and I were flabbergasted by this sight! I'm sure the slide was stuck and there was no other alternative, but it was crazy to see this.

We are fortunate to know an amazing couple who became instant friends 12 years ago on our first Fjordland Express cruise to Juneau, and this time around they have offered us to bring our rig and stay with them while visiting Whitehorse. Brian and Patti have made the most beautiful house and gardens! Their backyard is probably one of my favorite places.

Their sweet pup, Riley! He was also a wonderful host!

The guys were having a drone war, lol! Patti and I sat with the pups and tried to catch up. Look close at the bottom picture and you can see both their drones.

Sean and I became enamored with the Northwest Territories polar bear license plates, so we asked Brian if he knew anywhere to find some old plates we could take back with us. Turns out he had some old plates he didn't mind parting with! We are now proud owners of polar bear license plates, lol. Makes us wonder why other license plates aren't differently shaped...

Later came show and tell of Brian's father's creations. One of the pieces is a bolo tie with mammoth bone and gold nuggets. He was an amazing and creative craftsman of many different items.

I didn't get a picture of all the tasty food they graciously made us while we were staying with them, but this breakfast Brain made us was definitely a highlight. Those who know me, know that I'm a breakfast fanatic!

After breakfast, Sean had to wheel barrow me around Whitehorse to get our errands completed, lol. We went to Canadian Tire to get a few essentials for motorhome maintenance and then to the grocery store. The truck parts store (to get an oil filter) wasn't open due to a Yukon holiday, so we had to wait until the next day to start that project.

After errands were done, we went to explore Whitehorse and ended up at Miles Canyon, which is so beautiful! The pups got some water time in and we got some steps hiking. Hershey was absolutely thrilled for the last photo, lol!

If you can believe it, there are salmon that swim all the way to Whitehorse! So, we took a moment to check out the fish ladder they provide due to a dam on the Yukon River. At this point, they had 371 returning salmon.

Then, we found the Black Street Stairs that lead from a neighborhood up to a trail around the airport grounds.

We were blessed with some more delicious food and homemade lemonade for dinner by our wonderful hosts. We all went on a short neighborhood trail that overlooks the Takhini River. Once we got back, we introduced the Jokers & Marbles game to our Yukoners, and we had a BLAST! They caught on quick to the game rules and then became fierce contenders!

The next day, after getting to the truck parts store at dawn, the guys tackled motorhome maintenance (which Sean felt necessary to wear a trash bag, lol). I found Patti collecting peas that were ready to shell and we sat on the porch and shelled peas, drank coffee, and talked. Patti later harvested some carrots and peas to send with us. They were both so good!

We took our hosts out to dinner to their favorite restaurant, Kit's Kitchen, and then they showed us a great view of Whitehorse and their neighborhood. We found lots of low bush cranberries on this mountain.

We requested a side trip to an old stomping grounds of ours when we came through on our 2013 trip, the repair shop, lol! This was our home for about 2 weeks on the previous trip. It's good to see the shop still seems to be going strong.

We made a stop at the grocery store for snacks and then hurried back to their house to play some more Jokers & Marbles! Thank you Brian, Patti and Riley for your hospitality and for all the laughs. We had such a wonderful stay with you guys!
