Taylor Hwy/Tok, AK/Sourdough Pancakes!

June 18 & 19: We were set to leave Walker Fork Campground headed toward Tok, AK. That means we get to complete Taylor Hwy, passing by Chicken which we just visited and battling the roughest pavement we have ever experienced in our lives!

The girls got into their travel position and we set off!

The road was dirt from the Walker Fork Campground up to Chicken.

Just hit pavement in Chicken before Chicken Creek...

...and then we were wishing for the dirt roads again...

You can see the frost heaves in the road ahead of us. These heaves can sneak up on you, so we were going slow to keep the motorhome from breaking in half, lol.

Those are holes in the pavement! We had passed some awful big holes before we got to this area...

Thank goodness, a dirt section!

We certainly looked forward to these dirt sections every time when came across them.

Construction on the road... We hollered to them that they missed a spot back there, lol, like the whole rest of the road...!

Ugghhh....

Had to take a break from concentrating on the road.

Starting to see mountains in the distance!

Finally got to Sourdough Campground and in one piece!

Our site was extremely long and just wide enough for the slides to go out.

Next thing on the agenda, provisions... you know... chips and salsa!

While in Tok, Sean and I kept seeing these giant truck and trailers...still not sure what exactly they were being used for. I couldn't imagine driving something like that around!

We met with the other campers at 7:30 for a meeting on the Sourdough pancake bucket toss! Everyone introduced themselves and where they were visiting from and then the owner explained the rules for the toss. You get two throws, but the first is your practice throw and won't count if you make it in the bucket on that throw.

Sean's throws.

One of my throws.

The winners of the evening! They all got basically a free ($10 off) breakfast for the restaurant in the morning. They also got "winner" chips. Sean and I got our "loser" chips, then we all took a picture together to close out the evening. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of our sourdough pancake breakfast the next morning, but it was very good and well worth the overnight stop!
