We stopped in Roswell, NM to fill up the tank while could find a gas station the motorhome would fit in. After we had finished and were about to start the engine and leave a goofball in a pickup decided to use the one gas pump directly in front of us when there were about 5 other pumps open...some people, hahaha!
Although we didn't leave at the originally planned 0700, we managed to round up the other part of our group quickly and head out; destination Santa Fe, NM. Our only subject of interest during the drive there was part of our family traveling in front of us in a Jeep, hence lots of pictures of their vehicle and an occasional train.
The drive went very well and we ended up arriving at the Los Suenos de Santa Fe RV Park & Campground at a decent time to get our sites set up and go walking through downtown Santa Fe, or so we thought.
After checking in at the front desk, we drive up the other site reserved for our group and behold a huge tree overhanging the site with two concrete barriers on either side. Well that wasn't going to work, so we asked our travel companions to switch sites with us (they travel with a 24' Coleman trailer) thinking that their site would be better for our beast of a motorhome. After unhooking our tow vehicle, backing up to the traded site, and a 4-point turn we get the motorhome settled into the site and realize the 50 amp electric hookup is on the right side of the site on a telephone pole and way too far for our electric cord to reach! So, we are thinking maybe the front desk has an extension we could borrow because it seems they would run into this problem a few times...they don't apparently. One of their employees came to look at the problem and finally realizes we need to move sites...again. Off to the next site over we go, along with another difficult area to maneuver in. Finally we got settled in the new site with the electric hookup on the correct side. Once our other party was settled into their site we were off to downtown to eat and look around.
We find parking spots at the Bataan Memorial Building and decide to walk into the downtown area. We noticed on the way there that it was extremely windy and blowing dust and dirt everywhere. We were wondering why everyone seemed to be outside of the shops and restaurants, and finally realized there was a power outage and it affected the entire downtown area. Shops were closing down for the day due to the lack of power and this pushed many people out on the sidewalks and such. We had walked to the plaza area by this time and had just started to feel a few raindrops falling. Not even a minute later, we were rushing over to a stage/gazebo to get out of the downpour. Since everything was closed, we decided to go ahead to Walmart for a quick few items and after that we were off to find a restaurant. It was interesting being the 3rd and last vehicle of the "clown show" trying to find a restaurant that was wasn't closed or for sale, haha! I think we turned around about 3 times, losing our party in the process for a few seconds and finally ended up at a New Mexican food restaurant that turned out to be decent. After eating, it was off to bed. In the morning the next destination was to be Ouray, CO.
