Happy Day Before Independence Day

The next stop on our trip was to Lake City to meet up with some more family that were tent camping. They have gone to Lake City for July 4th festivities for the past few years and raved about the fun they have in this small town. We stayed at the Wood Lake RV Campground a little way out of town. They had very hard spaces to get in to (we had a sapling in the way of our front door), but once we managed to get settled we finally got to look around and were amazed at the scenery.

Once everyone was ready and loaded up in the vehicles, we went down into town to explore. Sean's Dad and he were excited to see the Alfred (Alferd?) Packer memorabilia and such at the town's museum. Apparently, Mr. Packer was guiding some men (to where I am unsure) and got stuck in a snow storm. They ended up basically starving and Packer decided to be a cannibal, and ate the 5 men he was supposed to be guiding. Whoa! Crazy business. In the pictures below, the museum had a doll house that he built while in prison...and, the way they found the bodies of the people he was guiding.

The museum was a neat place to visit, with lots of interesting artifacts from the area. After exploring the museum, we met up with our family that was tent camping and their friends. Everyone was interested in finding sweets to munch on, so we all went separate ways and were to meet back at the park in town. Sean got a caramel apple, and I of course got ice cream. When everyone met back at the park, we got a family baseball game going. We actually were doing fairly well and other kids in the park started to join in. Most of the adults stepped out of the game when there were what seemed to be professionals (some older kids that had joined the game later on) taking over the game. All the kids were having lots of fun and batting the ball (which was a green foam ball) over the public restroom area.

The campground we were staying at was actually just down the way from the Packer Massacre Site, so of course, we had to go and see that. We kept joking that we would have to leave Molly (our dog) outside for him to eat so Alfred Packer wouldn't eat us, haha!
