On July 13th, we headed out shortly after waking up and letting the puppy out to do her business. Our plan today being to reach our campground in Stony Plain (outside of Edmonton) fairly early so we could check out the West Edmonton Mall and the Capital Legislature Buildings. Calgary is a very spread out city, but pretty in it's own way.
Once through Calgary, it is a straight shot to Edmonton. It took us a while to find our campground due to our GPS not working in Canada, we had to use the good old-fasioned maps and road atlas.
Camp N' Class was the only campground we could find with a vacancy, and while we were checking in I decided to ask the nice lady what the beatuiful yellow flowered fields were that we kept seeing on the drive up. Turns out, it is canola and I never would have guessed.
While we were going through the small towns to get to the campground, Sean saw a Canadian Tire (which he could not wait to go see what it was all about) so once settled at the campground, we went to the store and Sean wanted his picture with the store he had waited so long to see, haha! We had a quick look around, but had to leave shortly due to time constraint.
So, we headed to the West Edmonton Mall, which is the largest mall in North America. It includes a few hotels, Sea Lion show, ice-skating rink, amusement park, water park, zip-line, and a bizillion shops. It took us a few hours to explore the whole place, definitely worth the time to go see.
Next on the agenda, the Capital Legislature Building is a very pretty area, but was unfortunately under construction. It is a very beautiful area located next to the river that runs through the city, and various parks surrounding the buildings with large water fountains and nice landscaping. Apparently, this was the place to have your wedding photos taken. Since the day was nearly done, we decided to head back home.
